TRICHY: A was unearthed from a temple tank at Peravurani in district. The half-a-foot-tall bronze statue was found while a resident was taking bath in the tank.
Murugesan, who was the resident of Senkollai near Peravurani in Thanjavur district went to the near Nattanikottai Muniyaswami temple on Tuesday morning.

While taking bath on the middle of the tank, Murugesan felt his leg hit something. He lifted the object from the bottom of the tank and found that it was a Buddha statue, weighing about one and a half kilogram.

Murugesan handed over the statue to Peravurani tahsildar Baskaran.

The age and other details of the statue would be known only after personnel from the archaeological department examined it, revenue officials said.
