Kollam: A 54-year-old of Mount Tabor Dayara and Convent, Pathanapuram here, was found inside a well on the institution premises on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Sr C E Soosanna, a teacher with St Stephen school, Pathanapuram. Her both hands were found slit and hair chopped off.
The body was found in the well by convent staff after tracing blood stains found nearby around 9 .30am. Though fire force personnel reached the spot immediately, they did not take her out after finding that she was dead. People who thronged the convent after hearing the news also demanded the presence of RDO before fishing out the body. Later, the body was taken out and inquest was conducted in the presence of ADM Sasikumar by noon. The body was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for conducting autopsy.
Pathanapuram police have recovered a blade from the nun’s room. Witnesses said there were blood stains in the nun’s room as well as in the backyard of the convent — for a distance of 50m from the room leading to the well. Also, part of the chopped hair was also found in the room.
Sr Soosanna, who hailed from East Kallada, was working at the school for the past 25 years. According to convent inmates, she was taken ill and was on leave for the past one week. Apart from going to a hospital, she had also visited certain pilgrim centres, they said.
Police said the nun, who was reportedly suffering from epilepsy and gastronomic ailments, was advised by her doctor to continue the medicines she had been having as there was nothing more that could be done to cure the diseases. This might have prompted her to end her life, said the cops.
