GAYA: , national security adviser (NSA) to Prime Minister, on Sunday performed ‘pindadaan’ at Gaya for salvation of his ancestors’ souls.
The NSA performed the main ritual at the world famous Vishnupad temple. Rituals were also performed at two other vedis (altars) – the Falgu river and the Akshay Vat. It is at Akshay Vat that successful completion of ‘pindadaan’ is certified by the main priest.
Assisted by Pandit Ramanuj Pandey, Doval’s family priest Rajen Sijuar conducted the rituals and awarded ‘suphal’ to the devotee. The NSA, who arrived on Saturday evening, also visited , the seat of Buddha’s enlightenment and the Great Buddha statue about 1km to the southwest of the main shrine.
Doval stayed at Officers’ Training Academy guesthouse. During his Mahabodhi Temple visit, the NSA enquired about the points where terrorists engineered low intensity blasts in July 2013. He left for the national capital by an Air India flight.
