Nagpur: BJP is reportedly upset with its office bearers running Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) over rise in civic problems. Party’s city president and MLA Sudhakar Kohle has reportedly hauled up the and directed them to meet citizens and solve problems raised by them and party workers.
Kohle held a meeting with Mayor Nanda Jichkar, deputy mayor Deepraj Pardikar, ruling party leader Sandip Joshi, standing committee chairman Virendra Kukreja, chairpersons of consultative committees and zones at BJP office on Saturday.
Kohle told TOI the communication gap between NMC office bearers and citizens and party activists seems to have widened. “Complaints about sanitation have increased. Dengue cases are on the rise. Problems related to drinking water supply are not ending. Non-functioning street lights are causing various problems. People expect these facilities. Going to NMC and looking after its affairs is not enough. Office bearers should meet people and party activists and resolve complaints raised by them,” he said.
Kohle said day-to-day monitoring of works can help check problems. “Office bearers and corporators should monitor the sanitary workers daily. This would prevent piling up of garbage in localities. The same goes for every work,” he said.
Last week, Kohle held a meeting with NMC officials to review the problems related to his constituency.
Congress city president Vikas Thakre said it was a certificate issued by BJP itself to its own office bearers that they are unable to run NMC and the city. “Condition of roads has gone worse. Every hospital is jampacked with patients. There is no control over quality of cement road and other works. All areas are getting contaminated drinking water supply. Only private companies and contractors are happy with NMC’s working,” he said.
BJP sources said Kohle directed the office bearers to start ward and zone-wise meetings. “Kohle said none of the office bearers except chairman of tax consultative committee Sandip Jadhav was holding review meetings or going to all zones.”
