GFP and independents form group to meet BJP observers

PANAJI: Three ministers from the (), ruling BJP’s alliance partner, aligned themselves with the three independent MLAs on Sunday.

GFP ministers — Vijai Sardesai, Vinod Palyekar and Jayesh Salgaonkar — were accompanied by independents Rohan Khaunte, Govind Gaude and Prasad Gaonkar as they arrived to meet BJP central observers at a city hotel.

Sardesai led the group as he said ‘the six of them are together’ and wanted a ‘permanent solution’ if a decision is being taken on new leadership for Goa, while chief minister Manohar Parrikar is undergoing treatment at the AIIMS in New Delhi.

“Six of us are together and we want a permanent solution. We are against any temporary solutions,” Sardesai said before meeting the BJP central observers.

The three GFP ministers, the two independent ministers and one independent MLA met the BJP’s central observers together.

Following the meeting, Sardesai said, “We have created this (government), it is also our baby. And (Mr) Parrikar is in AIIMS. We wish him a speedy recovery, but in the meantime we hope that there is stability as well, and we will get his (Parrikar’s) blessings for something that is more permanent.”

The GFP minister called Sunday’s meeting “the beginning of a process” towards a solution for a leadership change in the state.

While Palyekar and Salgaonkar from GFP and independents Gaude and Gaonkar did not interact with reporters, and left it to Sardesai, the otherwise outspoken Khaunte said, “All six of us are together. We have come here to hear the views of the observers.”
