THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state will come to a standstill on Monday as both the LDF and UDF will come together to observe a 12-hour against the rising fuel prices in the country.
Though the All India Congress Committee (AICC), along with other opposition parties, had called for a from 9am to 3pm, in it turned out to be a hartal with the LDF calling it first. Soon, the Congress also changed its plans in the state and decided to observe a dawn-to-dusk hartal.
Both the Congress and the CPM have urged its activists not to disrupt relief and rehabilitation activities in floodaffected areas.
The IUML had earlier demanded the Congress to avoid the hartal in view of the postflood scenario in the state. However, the KPCC decided to go ahead with the strike as it was high time that the party protested against the economic policies of the BJP government, especially hike in fuel prices.
