Couple killed, son injured as car rams roadside wall

Coimbatore: Two of a family were killed and another one was critically injured after the car they were travelling in hit a roadside wall on Salem-Cochin bypass near Karumathampatti in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased were identified as V Srinivasan, 69, and his wife S Laxmi, 63, of Dharmapuri. Their son S Balamohan, 36, who was at wheel of the vehicle, is undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

According to police, the trio were on their way to visit a relative in the city. “When the car neared Karumathampatti around 1.15am on Sunday, Balamohan lost control over the vehicle, which then rammed a side wall on Salem-Cochin highway,” said a police officer. “The couple sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot. Balamohan, who sustained injuries to his head and a leg, was taken to a nearby hospital, from where he was taken to the CMCH after proving him first aid.”

The Karumathampatti police have also sent the bodies to the CMCH for postmortem. After the autopsy , the bodies were handed over to family members.
