Rajkot: At least 10 persons were arrested in connection with illegal mining of limestone in Vijapur village, about 15km from Junagadh town, on Monday night.
In all, 18 persons were booked for illegal mining of which 10 were arrested.
The officials of the Rapid Response (RR) Cell acting under the Range IG Junagadh Subhash Trivedi raided Vijapur village where the mining is believed to be going on since past month-and-a-half. They also seized illegally mined limestone worth Rs 90 lakh from the site and arrested 10 labourers working there.
However, seeing the cops, the main accused Kala Bala Rabari, Lalji Dhoniya, Veera Rabari, Ajay Rabari along with four others managed to escape leaving behind five tractors, an earth mover, two generator sets and five cutters used to cut the limestone slabs.
Police has booked the accused for illegal mining and have initiated a manhunt for the absconding accused.
